After a few moments of waiting, he saw his student answer the door.”Ah, I’m glad I managed to find you. You remember that wishlist of books you gave me after that horrible incident with the vampire book?” Just the mere mention of it brought back horrible images of when he’d looked up the book, brushing that aside however. Negi lifted up a bag with one hand, holding it out toward Nodoka.
“I did a little research on the first one I gave you and I felt I really needed to apologize for buying it in the first place. And well I found and got 3 of the books on the list as soon as I could.”
“Negi-sensei…. you don’t need to apologize. It not like you knew or anything.” Sure the book was an absolute debacle and a shame on the literary community, but Negi didn’t give it to her knowing such a history. He did give her a book without her asking, that was more than she could even hope for with most people.
Gingerly she took the bag holding the books that he outstretch to her. “Th-thank you, sensei. It means a lot. I… well I don’t have a gift for you, and it feels wrong if I don’t at least get you something…” That was her indirectly inquiring you, Negi, to give her a gift idea.
The feeling of impending dread got worse. Maybe he should go to Evangeline’s resort to plan something and figure out what this is…..
“Ufufufu” She said in a dull haze while she stood on her prepared trap zone. Evangeline simply eating some pudding awaiting for ever a sign Negi was in the area. It didn’t matter how long it would take. “Come here you brat. Just wait till I get you back for this sham of a book you gave me…”
“That’s the spirit.” Negi said as his demeanor lightened a bit and a small found it’s way on his face again. He knew Evangeline wasn’t really one to show cheer all that much, but she seemed interested in the idea at least. He really hoped his plan would work, he didn’t want to get her hopes up for nothing but wasted time and disappointment.
Coming to a stop a few moments later, Negi spoke again.”The curse is connected to the power here. So that’s why I chose this spot to try this since the connection will be the strongest. I just need a moment to set up a ward to keep anyone from seeing this or wandering into the area…” Upon finishing this statement, Negi quickly got to work setting up a bounded field, with an added persuasion effect to it to influence those coming into the area to go somewhere else.
“While I do this and before I attempt my plan, is there anywhere you’d like to go once this works? I figure it’s better to think of something now so we can maximize the amount of time we have from when the curse is down, instead of wasting precious time thinking of where to travel."
"Fine, I guess you can waste your time on those things. Not as if I care that anyone sees.” Evangeline never cared for being subtle about anything really. If she wanted Negi’s blood, she went about trying to get it. If she was displeased in something, she flat out told the person with little regard. Simply put, she was far to open and honest about such things. The magic world would of been revealed a long time ago if she had any way of doing so.
The thing was that all she cared about was getting out from this school even if only temporarily. So whatever else was required to do so was of little concern to her. It was aggravating to wait, but it was nothing compared to the years spent here. Repeating the same grade even. A true hell upon this earth was afforded to her.
“Eh? Where to go…” Considering this was the first time she was remotely able to go out, such a thought never actually occurred to her. Aside from field trips, Evangeline had no clue what the outside world was like anymore. In fact, when was the last time she even attempted such an excursion before Nagi? “L-Like I know… what about a tea shop?"
To say Negi had screwed up in the act of gift giving was a massive understatement. He’d looked up some information on Twilight to know why exactly Nodoka had reacted the way she did. What the child had found was…..Not pleasant to say the least. Fortunately he’d gotten a wish list of Nodoka’s to prevent this terrible thing from happening again. Knowing he had a lot to make up for, he’d gotten 3 books on the list as soon as his travels permitted it.
Having come back to Mahora, Negi went to Nodoka’s dorm and knocked on the door, hoping she was inside.”Nodoka-san, are you in there?” If the girl wasn’t here he figured he’d check the library.
Nodoka had decided today to relax in bed and read books all day. It was a day off from classes so why not party by escaping into the world of fantasy. Though the typically meant that she didn’t dress up in anything fancy and appeared like a lazy slob of a tomboy. The extremely loose fitting closes were just so comfy in bed. Her enjoyment of this fake world in her comfort began suddenly interrupted, however, by a knock at her door. Only the sound was followed by Negi’s voice.
“Yes, I am here, Negi-sensei. Let me just get the do—”
“W-Wait one moment…” There was no way she’d let sensei see her in such attire, so Nodoka rushed to change into a more fitting casual wear before answering the door. “S-Sorry for the wait, Negi-sensei. You needed me?”
“Well, due to my immortality, the blood loss itself isn’t really an issue. However, the magic in place by the curse is also supposed to prevent healing abilities like that and make breaking the spell require a sacrifice more or less. In the likely event I were to survive offering that much blood, even with my immortality. I’d still be in a very bad state, it’d be difficult to even move I believe, that’s where my idea comes in.” Negi began to explain, his more serious side showing as he continued.
“If I use Magia Erebea, I could take my strongest healing magic and merge with it. This should increase my already immense regeneration abilities. While in a normal situation, this really wouldn’t make much of a difference. In this circumstance, I think it might have a chance of, combined with my magic, allowing my regeneration to overtake the magic that would prevent my healing, or equal it, at least temporarily. That or I would need to stay like that to keep this method working and keep regenerating. It’s just theory crafting at the moment, but either way I think it could at the very least weaken the curse.”
He paused for a moment to allow the information to sink in.”I’d have to stay by you wherever you go outside of Mahora. Because I have no idea how long it would weaken or break the curse. “
Evangeline wouldn’t outwardly admit it, but this side of Negi was oddly really nice. It reminded her of his father with the dependable face and an atmosphere of immense intellect. Sure, she was quite above most in understanding the world and magic, but Negi’s family certainly were impressive.
“Huh… you actually can use your head for more than a hat rack, brat. Not entirely sure the full limitations of the curse and how it affects such magic, but I can see that working. If only temporary.” She thought about if more but couldn’t see this idea failing. It might work to permanently remove the curse, but that seemed slim. Still this was worth a shot. Not as if much can go wrong aside from it just being a wasted effort with nothing happening.
“… I see, you are probably right on me having to endure your presence everywhere I went. …Still it has been years since I walked even remotely freely about the area. So spending time with a brat such as yourself would still be better than to not try.”
“Tha-"Negi was about to reply, he had A LOT to say on that kind of world view. However before he could do such a thing. His aging pill ran out at the worst possible time. Now.”-t not true.“ His voice suddenly changed by a noticeable degree as he got a good half foot or more shorter.
Looking down, the now normal aged child noticed his clothes were a lot more loose then they had been a moment ago. Oh this was not good, Kyouko had just seen magic.”Err, I can explain.”
Kyoko had prepared for a retort from the bothersome adult, but something sounded weird of the guy’s words. Only looking as he began to shrink before her along with his voice. Just what in the hell did she just witness? No, let’s not even ask what that was.
"Ya piece of shit performin’ witchcraft and touchin’ such dark arts.” Pulling out her knife from her hoody, she jabbed it towards the other. The ideals passed down by her father told her such people were to simply die. Though she removed such memory and had a distaste of her old man, this was muscle memory for her. Not like the knife would get far with the magical boy.
“A-alright, that sounds like a good idea.” Negi replied as he face brightened a little bit from the suggestion. Always good to make sure you can return something.
“I’d bring you along to return it if I could, but it’s a long flight and you’d miss a lot of school.” He’d definitely need to get a wishlist or something from Nodoka to avoid this happening in the future. And look up this book to see WHY it’s that bad.
“Ah, no worries, Negi-sensei.” She said shyly while pulling out a meager list from her pocket. Leave it to the bookworm to keep handy all the interests she had for reading.
“I-I understand I can’t tag along with…s-so here..” Quickly holding out the note till Negi took it from her. “Classes are going to start soon so I need head the library quick. That list is book that I-I like.” Not awaiting much a response, she began rushing off with her modest pile of books to the library.
*Muffled Lightning form Negi screaming in the distance*
“THAT IS THE SECOND STRIKE YOU HAVE DONE! Brat! I don’t know what weird magic you are pulling with these grey faces, but I am going to beat you till you wish for death for having it punch me!”
